Valentine Heart Bangle
Valentine Heart Bangle
Bangle bracelets have been a super fun trend for month, and they show no signs of leaving any time soon. Here’s a fun handmade bangle variety for the lovers out there! It’s just in time for Valentine’s Day, but cute enough for every day wear.
You will need:
14 dead soft gauge wire, at least 16 inches (we used copper)
A fine point Sharpie marker
Round nose pliers
Flat nose pliers
Ruler
Wire cutter
Rubber mallet
Steel bench block
Using your round nose pliers, make a bend 3 inches from one end of the wire.
Using your flat nose pliers, carefully flatten the bent wire until they are parallel.
Fold the parallel bent wires 1/2 inch from the end, using your round nose pliers. Take care to keep the wires parallel. This creates your hook.
Bend the very end of the hook out slightly.
Support your hook with your flat nose pliers and wrap the tail of the wire around the long wire. Then cut off any excess wire and carefully tap down the end with your flat nose pliers.
Measuring from the rounded curve of the hook, measure 7.5 inches. (This yields a 7.5 inch bracelet. For an 8 inch bracelet, begin with 16.5 inches and measure 8 inches on this step.)
At your measured place, bend your wire around a fine point Sharpie.
Measure 1/2 inch from the Sharpie curve and form the inside point of the heart by bending the wire around the round nose plier.
Form the second side of the heart by bending the wire around the fine point Sharpie.
Support your heart and wrap the tail around the wire a few times to secure.
Trip off any excess wire and carefully tap down the end with your flat nose pliers.
Form your bangle around a round or oval form. (I’ve been known to use a soup can.) The heart forms the loop that the hook attaches to. S0 cute!
When you are happy with the shape and fit of your bangle, work harden it by carefully hammering the bangle portion on a steel block. (DO NOT mallet the wrapped and bent portions. They are already firm enough.) This will help the bangle stand up to wear and tear.
Your finished bracelet will look like this!
