  • What is it: Kingman Turquoise Mine is one of the oldest and highest producing Turquoise Mines in America. It was originally discovered by Native Americans over a 1000 years ago. Kingman Turquoise is known for its beautiful sky blue color and produces many variations of blue Turquoise.
  • History: The Navajo tool, called a Hohokam hammer, (dating back to 600 a.d.) were used for mining, polishing and finishing the turquoise. Using the hammers and other primitive tools, the Native Americans would cut the turquoise from the rock. The hammers are on display at the Mohave Museum of History and Arts and the Arizona State Museum in Phoenix.
  • Metaphysical Properties: It is believed that Turquoise improves the mental state overall by increasing all of the following positive mental characteristics: serenity, creativity, empathy, positive thinking, sensitivity, intuition, happiness wisdom all of which leads to greater self-realization.
  • Stabilized Turquoise: Natural, Mined Turquoise in it's raw form is very soft and is much like "sidewalk chalk." Since it is not hard enough for jewelry making purposes, it is stabilized. The stabilization process is done with a clear resin to make the stone harder and to achieve a glossy shine, but not to change the color or composition of the stone in any way. These are not dyed, tinted, or color enhanced in any way. They will never fade, bleed, or change in color.
  • What is it: The spiny oyster is in the spondylus family of mollusks. They are also known as thorny oysters or spondylids. Despite its name, these mollusks are not actually oysters but are more closely related to scallops. Spiny oysters are edible, and the mollusks are harvested for both their shell and meat.
  • History: Spiny oysters shells were carved and traded for at least 10,000 years. Natives of the now county of Columbia harvested these mollusks as a staple food source.
  • Metaphysical Properties: Spiny Oyster Shells represent hope and courage.
  • What is it: The mineral pyrite, also known as fool's gold, is an iron sulfide with the chemical formula FeS2. Pyrite is considered the most common of the sulfide minerals. Pyrite's metallic luster and brass-like hue, give it a visual resemblance to gold, hence the nickname of "fool's gold".
  • History: The name pyrite is derived from the greek word πυρίτης (pyritēs), "of fire" or "in fire." In ancient Rome, this name was applied to several types of stone that would create sparks when struck against steel. Pyrite was the popular choice in the 16th and 17th centuries as a source of ignition in early firearms, most notably the type of firearm known as the wheellock, where a sample of pyrite was placed against a circular file to strike the sparks needed to fire the gun.
  • Metaphysical Properties: Pyrite is believed to be a very protective stone, shielding the user from negative energy of all kinds. It is said to carry Pyrite in your pocket to protect you from both environmental pollution and physical danger. Pyrite also promotes physical health and emotional well-being.
