- What is it: Kyanite is an aluminum silicate mineral, and often occurs as long, striated crystals that may be transparent or translucent with a pearlescent sheen. The most commonly found colors of kyanite are blue, indigo, green, and black, although kyanite may occur in white, gray, pink, yellow, and orange - which was recently discovered.
- History: Kyanite derives from the Greek word, kuanos or kyanos, meaning "deep blue." This stone was once called Disthene, meaning "two strengths." It is a highly heat resistant material, withstanding heat up to 2,000 degrees. It is often used in kilns as an insulator.
- Metaphysical Properties: Kyanite aligns all chakras and provides balance of yin-yang energy while moving energy gently through the body. Kyanite is believed to have a calming effect on oneself, encouraging tranquility.
- Because gemstones are natural materials, appearances may vary from bead to bead
