- What is it: Lepidolite is a rare lithium-rich mica gemstone that is usually pink, red, or purple in color. Most lepidolite is in this color range, however; can very rarely be colorless or yellow. Its Mohs Hardness is 2.5 to 3.5
- History: Lepidolite was discovered in 1861 by Robert Bunsen and Gustav Kirchhoff. Originally called "lilalite" because of its lilac / lavender color, it was later named lepidolite from the Greek word "lepidos" meaning "scale" because of its scaly appearance caused by flakes of lithium.
- Metaphysical Properties: Lepidolite is thought to have nurturing and calming properties, so it is sometimes called the "peace stone" or "grandmother stone." Lepidolite is believed to aid in overcoming emotional or mental dependency and also to alleviate stress or nervousness. This gemstone is associated with the zodiac sign of Libra.
- Chakras: Lepidolite is connected to the 7th chakra in the traditional Hindu belief system. The 7th chakra is positioned on the crown of the head and is linked to the brain and central nervous system. Giving access to a higher state of conciousness
