- What is it: White Jade, also known as Nephrite is a variety of the calcium, magnesium, and iron-rich minerals. It is one of two different mineral species called Jade. The other mineral species known as jade is jadeite, which is rarer than nephrite, contains blacks, reds, pinks, and violets. While nephrite jade possesses mainly grays and greens (and occasionally yellows, browns or whites - like our white jade).
- History: Jade has been used in virtually all periods history, especially Chinese history. Jade has a deep significance in Chinese culture as it had been used to make tools, weapons, and jewelry for literally thousands of years. Items made from Jade would signify political power or possibly religious authority.
