- History: Shungite is an ancient rock formation that's about 2 billion years old. It can only be found in the Russian region of Karelia, near the small town called Shun'ga (where the name shungite comes from), on the shores of Lake Onega. Shungite has been used for centuries for it's mysterious "great powers,” to heal diseases and purify water.
