Instructions on Construction:
1. Start by making your beachy cluster of charms. Lay out your bead mat and gather the supplies for the dangle. These will include TC Shell, 2 x larimar beads, (optional crystals), jump rings & wire.
2. Take 1.5’ of wire, your needle nose & round nose pliers to create your messy wrap with the 14 x 11mm larimar drop (there is an optional crystal included in the middle of this wrap). The messy wrap starts out like a tent wrap, only with the longer length of wire you continue to wrap, keeping tension on your wire as you go, every messy wrap comes out looking different & some will please you more than others! If this is not in your repertoire at this time a tent wrap will also look beautiful.
3. Take 3” of wire to create the tent wrap for the smaller larimar bead & use a crystal at the midpoint between your two wire wraps.
4. Add a small oval jump ring to each of the wraps just created, using your flat nose & needle nose pliers. Remember to open jump rings to the side & only as much as is needed to thread on your charms, then close carefully making sure that the jump rings line up nicely.
5. Thread the two small oval jump rings onto the large oval jump ring, then thread the top loop of the shell charm onto the same large oval jump ring. Close the large jump, again being careful that it comes together nicely & that there are no sharp edges. This dangle section is now complete!
*Option: If you are not comfortable with wire wrapping you could pick beachy charms that can be attached with jump rings.
6. Next cut 45” of 2mm Leather Cord (antique brown was used in this design) thread on the large oval jump ring (attached to your cluster of charms) and 1 x abalone bead, take these two pieces to the middle of your leather. We will now work one side at a time to complete this necklace.
7. First Side: Measure approx. 2 ¼” from midpoint & tie an overhand knot (like you are tying a balloon), the measurement is from bottom of the knot. Thread on 1 x abalone bead & slide it down so it rests on top of the knot just formed.
* Please note that people are built differently, so you may want to vary where your knots lie… these measurements are just a suggestion & so feel free to adapt to your liking. This design allows the abalone beads free movement between the knots.
8. Tie a second knot with approx. 6” between bottom of the knots. Thread on 1 x abalone bead & slide it down so it rests on top of the knot just formed. This completes one half, (you may want to loosely secure this bead while completing the other side and then both ends of cord will be tied together when finished).
9. Second Side: Measure & tie knot approx. 6” from center to the bottom of knot, thread on 1 x abalone bead & slide it down so it rests on top of the knot just formed.
10. Tie a second knot with approx. 5 1/2” between bottom of the knots. Thread on 1 x abalone bead & slide it down so it rests on top of the knot just formed.
11. If you loosely secured the last bead, on first side, release it now. Take both ends of your cord & tie an overhand knot approx. 2 ½” from end. Just as a final touch, I took a sharpie in a color close to my leather and added a few dabs to the raw ends of my cut leather cord.
12. You can now try on necklace & admire your handiwork :)
13. Enjoy!
