A giant sapphire was once thought to surround the earth, making up the sky with its rich blue light. One of the most highly prized gems over the millennia, various cultures have ascribed many traits and powers to sapphires: they are said to bring vast financial gains, extreme good luck and consistent wealth. They are also reputed to protect their wearer from misfortunes and accidents, relieve negative feelings and heal unpleasant emotions.

One generally thinks of blue when one thinks of sapphires. The word sapphire actually comes from the Greek word for blue. In reality, sapphires come in a wide range of colors, including pink, orange, yellow, purple and white, or clear. Sapphires are a member of the corundum group of gems, which also includes ruby, and is characterized by extreme hardness and durability. You needn’t take any special precautions with your sapphire jewelry, as the stones are very difficult to damage.

Sapphires are not commonly found in bead form, but Bead World generally keeps strands of various colors of sapphire beads in our cases, from rich deep blue to mixed multi-colors. Take a look and see what people have seen through the ages when they admired the intense beauty of the sapphire.
