- What is it: Also known as Heliotrope, Blood Stone is a dark green variety of chalcedony with a deep red color caused by iron oxide. The spots of red resemble drops of blood on the stone, hence the name “bloodstone”.
- History: In Medieval Europe, Blood Stone was often used to carve images of the christian crucifixion and martyrdom. This act also gave this gemstone the name “martyr's stone”.
- Metaphysical Properties: Blood Stone has been used for thousands of years, believed to heal the human circulatory system. Bloodstone is associated with the root chakra. Bloodstone is the birthstone for March as well as Aquamarine.
