Description

  • Approximate beads per strand: 32
  • Origin: Mexico
  • What is it: This is a naturally occuring glow in the dark gemstone. The natural raw aragonite is grounded up with added color then is re-formed into beads so that it won't fade or bleed. While charging the aragonite in light will make the beads glow brighter, if it is left in sun for a prolonged period of time it may fade eventually. Aragonite is a carbonate mineral, one of the three most common naturally occurring crystal forms of calcium carbonate. It is formed by biological and physical processes, including precipitation from marine and freshwater environments.
  • History: Aragonite was named in 1790 after the Spanish province of Aragon. Certain mollusks' shell, such as abalone, are actually made of aragonite, which gives a luster known as mother-of-pearl. Many fossil shells now composed of calcite were originally formed of aragonite. These fossils have lost their original pearly luster.
  • Metaphysical Properties: Aragonite is believed to be a grounding stone. Considered to have the power to combat anger, accelerate learning process, promote patience, discipline, reliability, and encourage acceptance.
  • Because gemstones are natural materials, appearances may vary from bead to bead
