  • What is it: Jasper, is a type of quartz and / or chalcedony, which is opaque and usually red, yellow, brown, green, or blue. Patterns in this stone are created during the consolidation process forming flow and depositional patterns in the original silica rich sediment or volcanic ash. Jasper that is weathered over time, usually creates intensely colored superficial rinds.
  • History: The name means "spotted or speckled stone", and is derived from the old French word jaspre and the Latin word iaspidem. Green jasper was used to make bow drills in Mehrarh (Pakistan) between 4000 and 5000 BC. Jasper is known to have been a favorite gem of our ancestors.
  • Metaphysical Properties: Jasper is said to be a stone of grounding and stability, providing comfort and security, strength, and healing. It balances the aura to a level of wholeness and peace, while bringing joy to others.
  • Because gemstones are natural materials, appearances may vary from bead to bead
  • What is it: The mineral pyrite, also known as fool's gold, is an iron sulfide with the chemical formula FeS2. Pyrite is considered the most common of the sulfide minerals. Pyrite's metallic luster and brass-like hue, give it a visual resemblance to gold, hence the nickname of "fool's gold".
  • History: The name pyrite is derived from the greek word πυρίτης (pyritēs), "of fire" or "in fire." In ancient Rome, this name was applied to several types of stone that would create sparks when struck against steel. Pyrite was the popular choice in the 16th and 17th centuries as a source of ignition in early firearms, most notably the type of firearm known as the wheellock, where a sample of pyrite was placed against a circular file to strike the sparks needed to fire the gun.
  • Metaphysical Properties: Pyrite is believed to be a very protective stone, shielding the user from negative energy of all kinds. It is said to carry Pyrite in your pocket to protect you from both environmental pollution and physical danger. Pyrite also promotes physical health and emotional well-being.
