- What is it: The Kukui Nut Tree is the official state tree of Hawaii. The kukui nut has an important role in Hawaiian culture, it represents protection, peace, and enlightenment. Kukui nut leis are a part of many traditional Hawaiian events. The kukui nuts are typically sanded and polished into dark brown, black or with white finishes. The nuts are then laced together by themselves or interlaced with shells and worn as a lei or even as a bracelet.
Because wood / nuts are a natural material, appearances may vary from bead to bead
