- What is it: Snowflake Obsidian is a natural volcanic glass containing white "snowflake" crystal patterns of the mineral cristobalite, originated due to partial crystallisation of the glass.
- History: Obsidian has been used since ancient times and has written about as far back as two thousand years ago. It has been mined for jewelry and sculptures all over the world since then. Obsidian is found anywhere that has experienced volcanic eruption with rapid cooling. However, no snowflake obsidian has been found that dates before the Cretaceous period. It is believed that even primitive mankind may have used both snowflake obsidian and obsidian for jewelry, tools and weaponry such as arrowheads and knives.
- Metaphysical Properties: Believed to be a stone of purity, Snowflake Obsidian provides balance for body, mind and spirit. It helps to release stressful mental patterns. Promotes dispassion and inner centring. Snowflake Obsidian empowers isolation and loneliness, aiding in surrender while meditating.
