- What is it: Petrified wood is the remains of trees that are approximately 20 to 200 million years old. The organic materials are replaced by minerals during the slow process of turning to stone. Special, rare conditions must be met in order for a tree to be transformed into petrified wood. The fallen plant get buried in an environment free of oxygen, which preserves the original structure and general appearance.
- History: During the Great Depression in the 1930s, people flocked to the mountains and deserts hoping to discover any sort of rock, stone, or gem that could be turned into jewelry to sell. Many rocks were discovered, including petrified wood.
- Metaphysical Properties: Petrified wood is said to assist those who are mentally stuck. Believed to balance and create a foundation to launch new goals or ideas. Petrified wood is a wonderful grounding stone.
