- What is it: Cubic zirconia (CZ) is the crystalline form of zirconium dioxide. CZ is hard with a Mohs hardness of 8-8.5 and is usually colorless, but may be made in a variety of different colors.
- History:Cubic zirconia's most popular and common use is as a diamond simulant. Originally discovered by German mineralogists in the early 20th century, then commercialized in the 1970s in the USSR, this beautiful stone was designed for use in military application involving optics and lasers. Later by the mid 80's, cubic zirconia was commonly used in jewelry.
- Metaphysical Properties: Some believe that because cubic zirconia is a manmade stone, that it does not posess any metaphysical properties. While some believe that the stone can be used to improve focus and increase clarity.
