- What is it: Prehnite occurs in the veins and cavities of volcanic rock. Prehnite is often cut and polished into cabochons, but highly transparent prehnite is quite often faceted.
- History: Prehnite was first was discovered in 1788 in Cradock, South Africa. Prehnite was later named after Colonel Hendrik von Prehn (1733-1785), a Dutch mineralogist and an early governor of the Cape of Good Hope colony.
