  • What is it: Quartz is a common variety of silicon dioxide that often crystallizes into well-formed hexagonal prisms. It occurs in many colors, including purple amethyst, yellow citrine, and smokey quartz. Rose quartz is a very soft, cloudy pale pink color.
  • History: Rose quartz has been dated back to 7000 BC have been found in the area once known as Mesopotamia (today’s Iraq). Rose quartz jewelry was known to be crafted by the Assyrians around 800-600 BC. The Assyrians, along with the Romans, might have been the first to use this stone.
  • Metaphysical Properties: Rose Quartz is believed to have a soothing energy which fosters empathy, reconciliation, and forgiveness of others. Said to clear anger, jealousy, resentment, and allows healing of issues associated with holding on to such negative emotions.
  • Because gemstones are natural materials, appearances may vary from bead to bead
  • What is it: Amethyst is a purple variety of quartz (SiO2) where the violet color is caused by irradiation or impurities of iron which result in complex crystal lattice substitutions.
  • History: The name comes from the Koine Greek ἀμέθυστος amethystos from ἀ- a-, "not" and μεθύσκω methysko / μεθύω methyo, "intoxicate", a reference to the belief that the stone protected its owner from drunkenness. The ancient Greeks wore amethyst and carved drinking vessels from it in the belief that it would prevent intoxication. In Greek mythology, amethyst was rock crystal dyed purple by the tears of Dionysus, the god of wine and revelry. Ancient Egyptians used the stone as the representative of the zodiac sign of the goat.
  • Metaphysical Properties: Amethyst is believed to be a very powerful and protective crystal, and is a first choice of many metaphysicians. Used in acient times to recover from both physical addictions as well as addictive relationships, it became known as the “Stone of Sobriety”. A natural stress reliever, Amethyst is said to encourage inner strength.
  • What is it: Aventurine is a gemstone variety of quartz prized for it's translucency and sparkly metallic inclusions. These inclusions are typically composed of muscovite mica, which usually results in medium to dark green aventurine stones with a silvery green or blue sheen (but come in a wide range of colors). The metallic inclusions give aventurine a unique sparkling iridescent effect, known as 'aventurescence'.
  • History: The name for Aventurine came from an accidental discovery made by Venetian glass workers during the 18th century. The name "aventurine" was derived from the Italian words "a ventura", which mean "by chance". Goldstone was accidentally made when copper filings spilled into a batch of glass during production. This was the begining of goldstone (artificial aventurine). The name “aventurine” was later given to the natural stone as it resembled this glass.
  • Metaphysical Properties: Aventurine is believed to benefit the thymus gland and nervous system. Considered to balance blood pressure and stimulate the metabolism, lowering cholesterol.
