- What is it: Most chalcedony is a mixture of microcrystalline or cryptocrystalline quartz and morganite (some are free of moganite). The colors of chalcedony are a result of metallic impurities such as iron, nickel, copper, and titanium which are present during crystallization. Chalcedony is a tough gemstone (Mohs Hardness 6-7), good for all jewelry applications. Pieces are usually carved; however, nearly transparent pieces may be faceted.
- History: Chalcedony letter seals have been discovered which date back to 1800BC. It is the perfect material since wax does not stick to this special stone. Carved chalcedony rings have been found along the trade routes of Central Asia.
- Metaphysical Properties: Chalcedony is a nurturing stone and is believed to promote brotherhood and good will. Absorbing negative energy; it brings the mind, body, emotions, and spirit into harmony.
- Because gemstones are natural materials, appearances may vary from bead to bead
