- What is it: Chrome diopside is a transparent to translucent variety of gemstone containing calcium magnesium silicate. It is of the rarer varieties of diopside and belongs to the pyroxene family of minerals. Chrome diopside is one of the newer gems available today. Though it's considered relatively new, it has quickly made its way to popularity and became one of the most sought after green gemstones of today. Naturally occurring green gemstones are actually quite rare, despite this, there is a widespread belief that they are common.
- History: Since its discovery in 1988, chrome diopside was sourced from Eastern Siberia in Russia. But more recently, other deposits have been found in other localities around the world, such as Pakistan, which is now a large supplier for the beautiful green gemstone. Shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Russia granted chrome diopside class one export status. It flooded gemstone markets all around the world, as it was marketed as an affordable alternative to emerald and green garnet.
- Metaphysical Properties: A lesser known gemstone, knowledge of the metaphysical properties of chrome diopside is minimal. In ancient times, some people believed green diopside had fallen from the tree of life. They believed the dead should be buried with the gemstone to renew life. In some cultures green diopside was believed to encourage peace and tranquility. The stone was placed on the forehead before rest to ensure sweet dreams.
- Because gemstones are natural materials, appearances may vary from bead to bead
