- What is it: Queen Conch or Strombus gigas describes both the large, mollusk and its shell. Queen conch meat is consumed throughout the Caribbean and is considered a delicacy. A queen conch can reach up to 12 inches in length and can live for up to 40 years. Its shell grows as the mollusk grows, forming into a spiral shape with a pinky-orange, shiny interior.
- History: The Aztec began many ceremony by blowing a trumpet, this trumpet was just a queen conch shell, with its chambers inside the shell creating noise. The conch has become a symbol of the relaxing life in the Florida Keys, where natives proudly refer to themselves as "conchs."
- Metaphysical Properties: Queen Conch shell is believed to purify one's energy. It has been used as an amulet to hope for long life by vitalizing and purifying ones energy.
