- What is it: Pure fluorite is transparent, both in visible and ultraviolet light, but it is the presence of impurities which make it a colorful mineral. Industrially, fluorite is used as a flux for smelting, and in the production of certain glasses and enamels. Fluorite is a commonly occurring mineral that occurs world wide with large deposits in over 9,000 areas.
- History: The word fluorite is derived from the latin verb fluere, meaning "to flow." In 1852, George Gabriel Stokes discovered that fluorite produces a blue glow when illuminated with light, he claimed the glow was "beyond the violet end of the spectrum." He called this phenomenon "fluorescence." The name gained popularity in mineralogy, gemology, biology, optics, commercial lighting, and many other fields.
- Metaphysical Properties: Fluorite is said to absorb and neutralize negative energy and stress. An excellent learning aid, Fluorite increases our powers of concentration, self-confidence and helps in decision-making. It encourages positivity and improves balance and coordination.
- Because gemstones are natural materials, appearances may vary from bead to bead
