- What is it: Tiffany Stone is a rare gemstone which is mined in only one location, the Brush Wellman beryllium mine, at Spor Mountain, in western Utah. Tiffany Stone is mainly made up of opal and fluorite and contains about 2% beryllium. It has a Mohs hardness of 5 to 5.5.
- History: Tiffany stone was discovered in 1969. There has been speculation on where the gem got it's name from, such as stories like it being named after the jewelry company Tiffany & Co. or a miner's daughter, but all of these tales have been proved to be false.
