- What is it: Rhodonite is a rose pink to dark red gemstone with black inclusions. Rhodonite is found in Australia, Finland, Japan, Canada, Madagascar, Mexico, Russia, Sweden, South Africa, Tanzania, and parts of the United States.
- History: Rhodonite's name comes from the Greek word, "rhodon", meaning "rose colored." Rhodonite was used to decorate the Moscow Metro, and Mayakovskaya Station, built between 1935 and 1938, and has over 80 square yards of columns with rhodonite inlay. In 1979, rhodonite was designated as the official state gemstone for Massachusetts, since it is considered to be one of the most beautiful materials found there.
