  • What is it: Zircon, not to be confused with cubic zirconia, is a mineral that belongs to the group of nesosilicates. It is a zirconium silicate which appears a a dark brown, green or red color after extraction and changes color when heated at high temperatures.
  • History: It is believed that the ancient Egyptians used zircon as a gemstone and also as a component of ornamental objects. Zircon has also been found in ancient Hindu temples and used in decorative carvings. In the Middle Ages, zircon was believed to have healing properties and was used to treat various ailments. It was also believed to protect the wearer from negative energy and bring peace and prosperity. During the 18th and 19th centuries, zircon was widely used in jewelry, particularly in Victorian-era England, where it was sometimes called "Matura diamond" or "jargoon." However, the popularity of zircon waned in the early 20th century, as new synthetic gemstones such as cubic zirconia were introduced and marketed as cheaper alternatives.
  • Metaphysical Properties: Zircon is a popular stone used to aid in meditation and is said to clear negative energy. Zircon is believed to attract wisdom, success, and wealth.
